SEO Marketing – Learn From the Best

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Here’s a fun exercise for the beginning web marketer: Use a web-browser such as Firefox which allows you to view the source code of any web page. Now search Google for random terms. Visit the first three non-paid sites that came up for that term, and view the page’s source code. How did they get ranked to the top for that keyword?

We have a shell script to generate random search words, but there’s plenty of online tools out there, such as Random Word Generator, Banana Slug, or Random Google Page.

Our observations: About half the time, you come up with either Wikipedia or Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary or another online dictionary as the first link. With other site results, sometimes it’s obviously a matter of PageRank more than internal document information.

If you do view the source of the page, try doing a simple text search for the keyword. You’ll be surprised sometimes to find that a given page used no meta tags to speak of, but either had the keyword within the links or image file names – “invisible” stuff that the user wouldn’t see!

There’s also any of the keyword density tools here, which will count up the text of a page for you. But try not to make it feel like “work”!

Web Design Issues And SEO Part 2

Monday, August 2nd, 2004

If you want all your web pages and home pages to earn a high ranking on the search engine, you need to use proper anchor text. Depending on which pages you wish to optimize, you need to use anchor text accurately. When you design website, do not over burden it with too many pictures and graphics. Understand that search engines fail to locate pictures and well-created graphics. The site will have a problem for downloading and thus you need to make use of images and graphics, only where it is required.

Use of proper keywords is important, if you wish to earn high ranking and generate huge traffic. Many content writers fail to use proper keywords and hence fail to get exposure on the World Wide Web. If you browse the Internet, you will find a list of popular and rare keywords. The popular keywords will generate huge competition, where as rare words will have only potential customers log into your website.

When you use keywords, you need to understand that it is important to place them rightly. To earn high rankings and make your website SEO friendly, use keywords in the Title tag, Description Tag, and gradually in the content. Make sure that the keyword appears in the last paragraph of the article to make it easy for the search engine spiders to locate your site. It would be beneficial, if you place your keywords in the H1 size as search engines find it easy to locate words written in H1 size.

You need to have a balanced ratio of content and design to make your website SEO friendly. Create your website by keeping the average browser in mind. Use of complicated software should be restricted, so that search engine can easily detect it and help you get a high ranking. Always remember to optimize your website to be able to reach out to large number of audiences.
